The i3 raised some eyebrows when it was first released due to its radical design but it’s fair to say that the nation has warmed to BMW’s first fully electric model. Now, it’s been updated and upgraded and even give a higher level ‘S’ model which drives better and is more sporty looking. The regular i3 will still do a whopping 186 miles on one full charge, which is right up there with the competition and plenty of juice for the distance most of us cover every few days. It’s also pretty nippy too, with a 0-62 mph time of just 7.3 seconds. You get loads of kit as standard with the i3 too. LED headlights, heated front seats, BMW ConnectedDrive, SatNav and their ‘professional’ multimedia system all come included with every i3.

Home charging with a fitted wallbox gives you 0-80% charge in only 4 hours, and just 35 minutes via a rapid public charger.
3. Audi e-tron from £71,560
The e-tron, we think, is the most likely car to convert petrol and diesel buyers from the premium SUV market (which is massive) into electric SUV owners. Why? Because it looks like a normal Audi SUV, which means it’s aesthetic, desirable and classy. The e-tron is also extremely well developed. Despite the fact it is one of the largest EVs on the market, it only takes half an hour to achieve 80% charge in a rapid charger, and 100% will conquer about 237 miles, according to the manufacturer. Not bad! Obviously, it’s not particularly cheap, prices start from £71,560 - which isn’t budget-friendly for most of us but it will stand out to a huge market of premium buyers.
