We take a look at this bespoke convertible and why the musical millionaires are rumoured to be its commissioners

Are Jay-Z And Beyonce the owners of £20 million Rolls-Royce Boat Tail?

The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is a bespoke, coachbuilt, no-compromise convertible commissioned by Jay-Z and Beyonce for £20 million, rumours suggest. Naturally, the motor manufacturer has not confirmed the pop stars ordered this machine but it has hinted. Our clients are a ‘globally successful couple’ who want a car that represents a lifetime of hard work and success, it said.

Styling

The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is beautifully styled. It looks thoroughly modern yet pays homage to the manufacturer's classic vehicles. Highlights include the new interpretation of a traditional grille. Note the paintwork, too. It contains various shades of blue rather than only one. The bonnet is a darker blue than the doors, for instance. The convertible also has blue wheels. A link to the pair’s Blue Ivy daughter?

But there is more to consider. As its name suggests, this convertible shares traits with a classic luxury boat. The wraparound windscreen is reminiscent of a ‘visor on a motor launch’ and there is also wooden ‘aft decking’ that can open upward in two sections like butterfly wings.

Under the deck, there is everything needed for a picnic. On the left there is a fridge that can cool two bottles of champagne to six degrees. Rolls-Royce said this is the ‘optimum serving temperature’ for the owners’ favoured vintage, Armand de Brignac. There are also glasses, napkins, and accessories. On the right there is a temperature-controlled food area, crockery, and cutlery.

Furniture

The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail has further tricks at the rear. Highlights include cocktail tables that rotate into usable positions, the collapsible stools, and the parasol. The parasol extends from the centre of the car to protect people from the sun. It is ‘in anticipation of fine weather’, the manufacturer stressed.

Clever clocks

The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail has other unusual features. Two timepieces – one for him and one for her – can be mounted in the dashboard or worn on the wrist. The convertible also has a fixed roof that can be optionally fitted as preferred, blue leather seats, and a 6.75 litre V12 engine. The manufacturer only plans to produce three such vehicles – each presumably with unique features.

Rolls-Royce has its say

Rolls-Royce summarised its new convertible. ‘The Boat Tail challenges the notion of what a motor car is and creates a new definition of what a motor car means’, it suggested. ‘Boat Tail exists far beyond a mere means of transport. It is not just the method to reach a destination. It is the destination itself’. Very sentimental…
