The Audi A1 was first previewed at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show and was at the time labeled the Audi metroproject quattro. The concept seats four and features a new hybrid powertrain which consists of a 1.4 L 148 bhp Turbo FSI engine which drives the front wheels via a 6-speed S-Tronic manual transmission, while a 40 bhp (29.8 kW) electric motor provides power to the rear wheels and should do 0-62 mph in just 7.8 seconds.

Average CO2 emissions are given as 92 g/km and the vehicle should be available from March 2010.
