The new Audi TT RS stands out from more regular TTs. It features a five cylinder turbocharged engine, sports suspension, Quattro four wheel drive and huge brakes. Larger twin chrome exhaust pipes and a set of R8-style front air intakes complete the stunning new version.
The Audi TT RS produces an impressive 340hp, better than the Porsche Boxster S and BMW Z4 sDrive35i, and way above the 280hp from the new Lotus Evora. With a 0-62mph time of 4.6 seconds and storming in-gear pace, it feels every bit as quick as a V8-engined R8. There is a sport button which as well as sharpening throttle and steering response, opens up baffles in the exhausts.
Inside there are sports seats in Silk Nappa leather, aluminum pedals and a chunky flat bottomed steering wheel. The options list includes more extreme bucket seat options, plus the usual satnav, 19 or 20-inch wheels and some paint colours unique to the Audi TT RS. Fuel economy of around 30mpg and CO2 of 214g/km are decent figures for a 300hp+ car. The Roadster has rollover protection hoops plus front and side airbags.
The price is a bit of an issue, Audi report that they will be selling just 400 examples of the RS in a full year. Priced from £42,985 for the Coupe and £44,885 for the Roadster version even with Quattro four-wheel-drive, and a trick exhaust, this could be optimistic unless the RS really measures up on the road.
