The new BMW 1-series Coupé will be available in 120d, 123d and 135i guises, with prices starting at about £21,600. The 135i (from about £30,000) has a 2,979cc twin-turbo, straight-six petrol engine developing 306bhp and 295lb ft of torque. It powers the car to 62mph in 5.3 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.
BMW has posted a fuel economy figure of 30.7mpg on the Combined cycle for the 135i and a CO2 emissions figure of 220g/km. The model uses high-precision direct injection and brake energy regeneration to increase power while cutting emissions. The 123d uses the world's first all-aluminium diesel engine with a power output of more than 100bhp per litre, and is the first four-cylinder production diesel to use twin turbos. Peak torque is 295lb ft from 2,000rpm, while its emissions figure of 138g/km means it falls into the Band C VED category.
The 120d will be available in ES, SE and M Sport trim, the 123d in SE and M Sport, while the 135i comes only as an M Sport, including an aerodynamic package, M Sports suspension, sport seats and M leather steering wheel.
