The new BMW 116 diesel is the cleanest and most economical vehicle in the BMW range. The new 116d uses the same 2litre turbo as the existing 118d which is the current World Green Car of the Year, except with reduced amounts of power.
CO2 emissions are reduced to 118g/km and fuel economy is pushed up to 64.2mpg. It is capable of 0-62mph in 10.2 seconds and can reach a top speed of 125mph. The car is fitted with electric power steering, stop-start and low rolling resistance front tyres.
The BMW 116d costs just £35 a year to tax and has a benefit in kind rating of thirteen percent which ensures it makes economical sense for the business user. Under the new scrappage scheme BMW dealers are slashing a further £1260 off as well as the £2000 government and manufacturer incentive. The three door and five door versions are available in a new sport trim level which bumps the price up but choosing this car over an ES model gains 17 inch alloy wheels, front fog lights, heated exterior mirrors and windscreen washer jets, a Sport multi-function leather steering wheel and Sport seats.
Prices start at 17,220 for the three doors and the BMW 118d costs just £995 extra, it has the same tax ratings and offers more performance and power whiles using the same fuel rate and emitting just 119g/km.
