The BMW 316d ES Saloon is the most fuel efficient 3 Series ever produced, claims the German motoring giant. This latest model has a 2.0-litre diesel engine which achieves a combined average of 62.8mpg. Great for environmentalists - devastating if you rely on petrol station loyalty points for free towels.

The 316d ES Saloon's impressive fuel efficiency allows a possible range of 800 miles between fill-ups. This ensures CO2 emissions are only 118g/km, and allows this executive saloon to sit in VED tax band C/£35.

Despite focusing on economy the 316d ES Saloon has reasonable performance. The 2.0-litre engine generates 116bhp which propels the 316d ES to 62mph in 10.9 seconds. Top speed is a licence loosing 125mph. Standard equipment includes, air conditioning, multi-function leather steering wheel, fog lights, and front and rear child seat attachments.

The BMW 316d ES Saloon is available from September priced at £23,330 on-the-road.
