British Motor Show review by Jason Dawe

This week he talks about the British Motor Show at ExCel

I spent most of last week at ExCel, enjoying a fantastic British Motor Show. There was so much to see and do that this has really set a new benchmark for future events.

Of course it was helped by the stunning weather. When it got too hot outside, where you could enjoy ski shows, BMX demonstrations and jet-ski racing, you could retreat to the exhibition centre and take in some really exciting new products.

One firm really benefiting from this heat spell was Citroen. Unveiling the new C-Buggy, this is the French car firm’s radical take on an adventurous two-seater for the future. With no roof, windscreen or windows and permanent four-wheel-drive it is an uncompromising open-air fun car and will be great for hot weather motoring.

Saab’s stunning, white-painted, Aero X sports concept car has no fossil fuel emissions, no doors and no pillars between windows. ’It runs on bio-ethanol, so it’s the ultimate green sports car,’ says Saab. ’So you might say it’s all white for the future.’

The firm’s aircraft heritage shows in the fighter-style cockpit canopy, advanced instruments and an interior built around the driver. The 400 bhp twin-turbo should make for a memorable take-off too. Visitors to the show seemed inclined to agree, if the enthusiastic crowds around the car were anything to go by.

My favourite was the gorgeous supercharged Jaguar XKR. This seemed to define everything that makes Jaguar one of the world’s most desirable marques. Promising incredible grip and control, combined with aggressive styling, this is one car I really can’t wait to get my hands on. Expect to find yourself feeling the same as soon as you see one ‘in the flesh’ so to speak!

Happy Motoring!
