Car Repairs cost motorist £400 a year

Motorists fork out expensive repair bills

The average cost for repair bills for motorists is as much as £400 every twelve months according to a survey revealed this week.

Out of the ten most popular used cars the Ford Ka was the cheapest to maintain at £143.50 per year with the Vauxhall Vectra being the most expensive at £315.28. The most unreliable was the Renault Megane with 33.2 percent breaking down; in contrast the Ford Mondeo had a failure rate of only 8.1 percent.

Of the top 100 most popular used cars, small Japanese cars were the cheapest to run with the average annual repair bill for the Toyota Yaris being just £89 and the Honda Jazz only £106.00.

The survey looked at the cost of repairing cars four to eight years old that break down after the manufacturers warranty expires. Cars are more reliable now than they have ever been but the AA warned motorists to do their research before taking their car to a garage, the cost of labour and parts for some models have gone up and up so it is advisable to shop around. It seems that regular maintenance and care of your car is the only way to keep bills down.
