The second practice session of the Monaco GP started with an off, Pastor Maldonado locking up coming down to Sainte Devote and having to go off into the run off area. Jaime Alguesueri also made the same mistake not long after Maldonado, going off at the same point but smashing his front wing off the barriers.
Free practice 2 also saw the first tests of the super-soft tyres for the 2011 F1 season. The super-soft tyres sporting the red Pirelli writing to distinguish them from the yellow soft tyres. Fernando Alonso set the fastest time of the session on the super-soft tyres with a time of 1:15.123, followed by Hamilton on a 1:15.228.
Heikki Kovalainen made himself the third driver to lock up down to Sainte Devote and drive into the run off area. Vitaly Petrov lost his front wing coming out of the tunnel into the chicane, and hit the barriers on the right, the same area where Liuzzi hit the left barrier this morning.
Red Bull drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber could only manage fifth and eighth fastest. Mclaren driver Jenson Button managed fourth fastest, while Mercedes GP drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher managed to go third and seventh fastest. With Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes GP all looking strong this weekend, Monaco looks like it could be a very exciting race.
