Kevin Gaskell and his eighteen year old son Matt left their home in Newbury Berkshire on 26th December to complete the arduous journey to the South Pole within a month. Mr Gaskell who is president of Eurotax Glass’s and also ex MD of Porsche UK and BMW UK said he believed they would be the first father and son to complete the trek.
They are raising money for a cancer treatment centre at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and hope to raise in the region of £40,000, the money will be divided between the cancer centre and the Leukemia Research charity. Mr Gaskell’s sister Jayne Strong died in 2004 at the age of 44 after being treated at the hospital for myeloid leukemia.
They set off from the Patriot Hills base in Antarctica on 5th January near the end they struggled in white out conditions and suffered from altitude sickness but arrived safe and well at the South Pole on Wednesday 14th January. motoring.co.uk would like to congratulate Kevin and Matt on their remarkable achievement.
