In the run up to the Punto Abarth hot hatch next year, Fiat is launching a milder Punto Sporting, powered by a 120bhp version of the new 1.4 litre turbo T-jet engine. It's the same 'T jet' engine we'll see in the Abarth, but with less power. The Abarth version will be offered with a choice of either 155bhp or 180bhp.
In the meantime, the new 120bhp Sporting gets 17 inch alloys, a prominent bodykit and manages the 0-62mph sprint in 8.9 seconds. That's not full-on hot hatch performance, but it offers a practical sporting compromise, returning 42.8mpg as well as qualifying for lower insurance group than the Abarth will get.
