Purpose of police pickup
The Ford F-150 Police Responder is the first, pursuit rated, pickup and has special features to terrify crooks in America. It hunts them at high speed on tarmac, for example - and ploughs through tough off road terrain. There is no escape. It suits officers that protect rural regions, borders and game, the manufacture explained.
Engine and brakes
The 3.5-litre V6, turbocharged, petrol engine produces 375hp and 470lb ft of torque which is “ more than any other pursuit rated police vehicle”, the manufacturer explained. This power plant is teamed with 10-speed automatic transmission. Criminals have to exceed 100mph to escape this rugged, aggressively styled, predator.
Power is nothing without control, though. The F-150 Police Responder – in comparison to the standard F-150 pickup - has upgraded brake callipers and pads to bring it to a fast, safe, stop if crooks realise there is no hope of escape and pull over. A stiffer front stabiliser bar further improves braking and handling.
All-wheel-drive is among the strengths which help it excel off-road. In addition, underbody protection plates cut the risk of hazards ending pursuits by (say) wrecking the engine sump and letting oil escape. The F-150 has 18” wheels and off-road tyres, too. It is “perfect” for all-terrain law enforcement, Ford claimed.
Space and anti-stab seats
The New, 2018, Ford F-150 Police Responder’s interior is optimised for the safety and comfort of officers. Strengths include cloth front seats that incorporate life saving, metal, plates to prevent crooks in the rear seats stabbing them in the back. Front passengers also benefit from a best in class shoulder and hip room.
Rear seating is a bench that has room for 3. The vinyl finish - coupled with the vinyl floor – ensures “easy clean up”, the manufacturer explained. Furthermore, crooks on their way to a prison cell take comfort from the best in class rear legroom. The Ford F-150 Police Responder has other virtues. Highlights include:
High output, 240-amp, alternator to ensure the battery can comfortably power the electrical devices required by officers
7,000 lbs towing capacity (best in class)
2,030 lbs payload capacity
5.5 foot cargo box to securely store equipment
Engine hour and idle meter to confirm when maintenance is required
Normal, Tow/Haul, Snow/Wet, EcoSelect and Sport Modes optimise the response of the automatic gearbox to suit the conditions
Military grade, high strength, aluminium-alloy bodywork
Black and white police livery that states “protect and serve”
