Research from the UK new car website, motoring.co.uk shows that the Ford Fiesta is taking the lions share of the scrappage scheme market in July.
Over 27% of enquiries on the website are for Ford product, with the new Fiesta predictably number one, being the top-selling car in the UK this year. Over 11% of searches on the scrappage scheme include the number one model.
Vauxhall is the second most popular brand searched, with 10% of enquiries, mostly based around the Corsa supermini.
Korean manufacturers Kia and Hyundai, essentially two halves of the same company both have models in the top 5 searches , with the Hyundai i10 a creditable third in the list, and the Kia Picanto fifth. Other models making up the top 5 are the Ford Focus and the Volvo C30.
According to the SMMT, over 60,000 orders have been placed for cars via the scrappage scheme. June registrations fell by only 15.7% and July is expected to follow a similar pattern.
Dealers are pinning their hopes on the new registration in September having a positive effect on car sales, with the scrap incentive deals and low rate finance plans tempting consumers back into the market.
