Next month Ford celebrates forty five years of the iconic Ford Transit. When the Ford Transit was launched back in 1965 the cheapest available was a short wheelbase petrol engined van with 610kg payload priced at £542.00. The most expensive Ford Transit was a fifteen seat Custom bus which cost £997.
Since its launch in 1965 more than six million Transit vans have been built at 22 factories across the world. More than 2.1 million Ford Transits have been sold in Britain and 23,000 were sold in the first half of this year.
The Ford Transit of today represents outstanding value. A special edition Ford Transit ‘Sapphire’ went into production this year to mark the 45 years of success. The Ford Transit ‘Sapphire develops more power and torque, has longer service intervals yet costs just £295 more than the last celebration model in 2005, the Ford Transit "Hallmark".
There are now more than six hundred Ford Transit entities providing a range of dedicated commercial vehicles to ensure there is a model for every job required.
