The latest Volkswagen Golf Plus Bluemotion is 11% more fuel efficient and emits 10% less carbon dioxide than its predecessor, claim Volkswagen. This versatile vehicle has a 1.6-litre diesel engine which achieves a combined average of 65.7mpg, and emits 114g/km of CO2.

These impressive figures are partly due to minor improvements such as gear ratios, but also to newer technology such as regenerative braking. This system utilises energy that would otherwise be wasted. Regenerative braking essentially directs this energy to the alternator which subsequently recharges the battery.

The Golf Plus Bluemotion is available in two specifications, S and SE. Standard features include, ABS, six airbags, air conditioning, and multi-function computer. SE trim adds, cruise control, alloy wheels, and park assist to help with parallel parking.

The Volkswagen Golf Plus Bluemotion is available to order immediately for delivery from October. Prices range from £17,570 to £18,920 on-the-road.
