Motoring.co.uk's new car database is the first port of call for great value family cars. The Kia Ceed SW, for example, is an excellent estate that proves motorists should avoid badge snobbery and consider vehicles on merit. This likeable hold-all has confident handling, generous equipment, impressive build quality, and appealingly low running costs. The new car database reveals the Kia Ceed SW is available from 'buy safe' sellers from £11,995.

The Citroen C4 Picasso is also a worthy family workhorse - and the new car database lists it from only £13,995. This compact multi-purpose vehicle has plenty of interior space, distinctive styling, and useful equipment such as the integrated cool-box and removable 'torch style' boot light. The C4 Picasso may not feel as robust as some rivals, but this quirky design clearly has its merits.

The Volvo V50 is the smallest estate in Volvo's family and has numerous 'family focused' strengths. These include its five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, excellent handling, and enough luggage capacity for a disturbing amount of children's toys. This baby Volvo is therefore a prestigious and capable estate perfect for family buyers. New Volvo V50s are listed in Motoring.co.uk's database from £17,845.
