The new Jaguar XJ is available to order and represents a radical departure from its illustrious predecessors. The familiar lines of the XJ, originally crafted by Sir William Lyons in the sixties, have been rejuvenated with a muscular style reminiscent of the mid-sized XF. Jaguar Cars Managing Director, Mike O'Driscoll, commented:

'The new XJ is truly beautiful - exhilarating to drive, and with its bold, enlightened approach to design, it meets the challenges of our fast changing world. It re-imagines the ultimate sporting luxury car.'

This magnificent saloon is available with three engines. The 3.0-litre V6 diesel generates 271bhp and returns a combined average of 40mpg. The 5.0-litre V8 generates 380bhp, and the 5.0-litre supercharged version generates an astonishing 503bhp. This range topping model therefore charges to 60mph in 4.7 seconds and on to an electronically limited 155mph.

The aluminium bodied XJ is also beautifully equiped. Specification includes, digital television, DVD player, blind spot monitor, panoramic roof, adaptive cruise control, four zone climate control, and a 30GB hard-drive to store music – presumably hardcore rap.

The latest Jaguar XJ graces our roads from early 2010. Prices start at £52,500 rising to £88,000 on-the-road.
