Since the Outlander PHEV went on sale back in 2013 it has been a roaring success. By 2018 they had sold over 150,000 brand new models of the PHEV worldwide, with over 100,000 of those coming to Europe, although that figure is likely to be considerably bigger now thanks to the 2018 facelift which again boosted sales even further. In the UK it has been the best-selling hybrid car on the market for 3 years in a row.
The Outlander PHEV is a car we simply adore thanks to its extremely agreeable running costs, exceptional reliability record and, of course, because it’s an SUV that delivers comfort, style and usability. The big SUV emits just 40 g/km of CO2 and can achieve up to a quoted 139 mpg, although that’s under extremely strict driving conditions. In real life, you can expect in excess of 65 mpg, which is incredible for a car of this size and stature.
The Outlander PHEV can also be driven in pure electric mode at speeds up to 30 mph, ideal if you spend time in suburban traffic or crawling through the city centres.
However, there is a drawback with the Outlander PHEV, which is that because of all the technology on board and the fact it’s a sizeable piece of kit, it’s not exactly cheap, even after the government grant.
So, to get around this, Mitsubishi is making the Outlander PHEV more accessible thanks to their Approved Used network of vehicles. Mitsubishi currently has many examples of the Outlander PHEV available on their network of used cars, a number of very low mileage 67 plate cars are available for a lot less than their original selling price.
Naturally, buyers are rightfully a bit sceptical when purchasing used cars, however, Mitsubishi will offset any pre-purchase anxiety by packaging their approved-used models with a few treats...
First of all, every approved used Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will come with a 24-month warranty. This means that if something were to go wrong, you would have trained Mitsubishi technicians repairing your car with genuine Mitsubishi parts and this will all be covered for up to 24 months with no mileage limitations.
Secondly, all Mitsubishi approved-used vehicles come with 24 months of Mitsubishi Assistance Programme, which is basically roadside breakdown recovery. Wherever you are in the country, if you have an emergency, there’ll always be someone to come and rescue you.
Lastly, Mitsubishi is also including a lifetime of annual health checks for the Approved-Used models at the dealership they were purchased from. This means that once a year you can take your Outlander PHEV into the dealership and they’ll make sure that all the lights, tyres, brakes, wheels, electrics etc. are all working to the expected standard.
