The current iteration of the famous Quattroporte has been on sale since 2013 and it has been largely unchanged, but the desirability and luxury is just as convincing today as it was 7 years ago, if not even more so following the announcement of a special series of Royale models - a name tag more recently reserved for burgers, but is actually a nod back to a limited run of Quattroortes from way back in 1986.

Only 51 models of the original Royale model were ever produced and they were all exclusively available in rather regal green and blue colours. These cars all featured plenty of exposed woodwork inside the cabin and, naturally, an awful lot of lush leather too.

The Royale series doesn’t end with the Quattroporte though, the Ghibli and Levante SUV will also be made available in similar outfits. 100 examples of each car will be built though, so if you’re interested we suggest you get on the phone to your local dealer rather sharpish.

Royale models will be made available exclusively with Maseratis famous V6 engines, so that’s the 275 horsepower 3.0 litre Diesel as well as the 350 horsepower and 430 horsepower 3.0-litre Petrols.

On the outside, as you can see from the pictures, you’ll have to choose between ‘Blue Royale’ and ‘Verde Royale’ paintwork options, similar to the options available on the original Royale Quattroporte.

The Royale Series models are all based on the high-spec GranLusso trim level and come with two options of upholstery. Either full brown leather or two-tone brown and black leather, but this isn’t just leather, this is Maserati leather. The ‘Zegna PELLETESSUTA™ Cuoio’ (all-brown) option is a leather which is “Born of old-world Italian traditions and today’s innovative technology, it was ingeniously fashioned using thin strips of Nappa leather to create an ultra-luxurious “fabric” that is lightweight, soft and durable.”… Sounds lovely.

Elsewhere in the cabin, all Royale series cars come with high-gloss inserts in the cabin and a ‘1 of 100’ plaque sitting proudly in the centre of the cabin beneath the gear stick.

Aside from beautiful material selections and paintwork, buyers will be happy to know that Royale Series models all come with electric sunroofs, Bowers&Wilkins sound systems and privacy glass as standard. Cold Weather, Premium and Driving Assistance Plus packages are all included with every model too, so you’re getting an awful lot included in the box without having to tick a single box on the options list.

In terms of technology, all cars will come with the 8.4-inch touchscreen which uses the Maserati Touch Control Plus (MTC+) technology. It’s extremely straightforward to use and controls all functions from seat heating to sat-nav and everything in between. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto feature as standard and iPhone users can have Siri act as their personal assistant.

The order books for all 3 models of the Royal Series are open right now and deliveries are expected in March 2020. The Ghibli and Levante are the most accessible models with prices from £78,900 and £85,300 respectively. The Quattroporte enters the market with a rather hefty £103,150 price tag.
