Grab the champagne: Mercedes-Benz UK has sold one-hundred thousand new cars in 2013. That is a personal best – and the company still has a few weeks remaining to increase its tally. The record breaking car is a A 180 CDI Sport finished in Cirrus White that has a list price of £22,785. This compact hatchback has sharp, modern, lines that help it stand out from competitors such as the Audi A3, BMW 1 Series and Volkswagen Golf Hatchback. It is also pleasant to drive thanks to the supportive ride, precise six-speed manual transmission, comfortable seats and accurate steering. All qualities worth toasting with a glass of bubbly. Furthermore, this 1.5-litre 109bhp petrol-powered workhorse is fuel efficient. As such it averages 74.3mpg which rises to 85.6mpg on the extra-urban cycle. Even in town it manages 62.8mpg. These strengths complement the spacious cabin and reasonable size 341-litre boot. The latter can be increased to 1,157-litres by folding the rear seats flat. Mercedes-Benz' one-hundred thousandth customer is Jamie Leigh Arndell who is a Transport Manager for the Bristol & Avon Group. She explained that the A-Class is “smooth to drive” so “opted for one” as her company car.

Mercedes-Benz produces a vehicle to suit virtually everyone. These include sleek saloons that increase in size/prestige from the C-Class, to the E-Class then the S-Class.
