Mercedes-Benz reveals its hyperscreen which is a huge, new, revolutionary car interface that anticipates your needs.

Mercedes-Benz: New Touchscreen As Wide As The Dashboard

Amazing! The MBUX Hyperscreen lets you control key vehicle functions, access apps, and watch television via a screen that spans the whole width of the dashboard, Mercedes-Benz revealed. Furthermore, this revolutionary interface monitors your behaviour to learn which functions you use most. It can then ensure such buttons are prominent which reduces the need to look through menus.

How it works

The MBUX Hyperscreen replaces the traditional dashboard. It  incorporates a trio of screens which sit behind its curvaceous glass finish. The screen immediately in front of the driver shows the key information required to drive. These include the car’s speed, which gear has been selected, the external temperature, and which driver aids have been turned on. Cruise control, for example.

The screen in the middle shows secondary functions such as satellite navigation. Here, you can also operate the climate control, stereo, and make a phone call. Finally, there is a screen immediately in front of the passenger that might show a television that can be heard via headphones. However, from the driver’s perspective the television is invisible so there is no distraction.

Anticipates your needs

The MBUX Hyperscreen anticipates your needs based on past behaviour. This makes it easier to use, Mercedes-Benz hinted. For example, perhaps there is a very tall speed bump close to your home. Perhaps you therefore increase your vehicle’s ride height so it can get over the speed bump. The interface notes this behaviour.

As such, next time the interface notes the car is close to the speed bump it shows the button that raises its ride height. There is no need to trawl through any menu to find it. The interface might also note that you phone a certain person, on a certain day of the week, at a certain time – then show you the relevant button.

The MBUX Hyperscreen has further features. Highlights include:

  • 8 CPU cores and 24 GB RAM
  • feedback vibration as you touch it
  • clear image from any angle
  • coatings that minimise reflection
  • scratch resistant and easy to clean
  • operated via voice command
  • brightness automatically adjusts based on the ambient light
  • available soon via the Mercedes-Benz EQS (optional extra)
  • likely to be available on other cars in due course.

Mercedes-Benz summarised its revolutionary interface that makes most others look old fashioned. ‘The MBUX Hyperscreen is both the brain and nervous system of the car. It is visually impressive, radically easy to operate, and extremely eager to learn’, it said.
