Sales of the Mini have hit high times in the US and have soared ahead of sales in the UK for the first time in history. It seems that the crazy fuel prices have brought on the success in America.
Figures show there is a 27% rise in US sales with 40,694 Minis sold compared with 35,496 in the UK over the same period.
The Mini is built at the company's factory in Oxford and produces around 240,000 vehicles a year of which 80% are for export. It is reported that 500 electric minis will be shipped to the US for testing with private and corporate customers in the near future. The electric mini that produces zero pollution is to be launched at the Los Angeles Auto Show next month.
The Mini celebrates its 50th Anniversary next year; the original was created by the late Sir Alec Issigonis in 1959.
