The BMW M4 Competition Convertible is a fierce, no-compromise, hard-core sports car that is guaranteed to make your pulse race. It is enormously quick, beautifully styled, and it has an unquantifiable ‘x-factor’ that guarantees it stands out.

Engine, power, speed

The BMW M4 Competition Convertible has a 3.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 510hp. That is immense. Equally important, it generates 650Nm of torque from 2,750rpm to 5,500rpm. BMW confirmed that the engine revs high, too. Its red line is 7,200rpm. The power plant is also linked to eight speed transmission that lets you choose gears manually or cruise in auto.

Naturally, the engine ensures this convertible has spirited performance whatever the scenario and gets from 0 to 62mph in 3.7 seconds. It also charges from 0 to 124mph in only 13.1 seconds. There is plenty of mid-range grunt, too. 50 to 75mph takes 2.8 seconds in fourth gear. The top speed is also impressive. 155mph rising to 174mph if you add the optional M Driver’s Package.

M x-Drive

The M4 Competition Convertible has all-wheel drive to maximise traction. However, there is rear-wheel bias so a higher percentage of the engine’s power is sent to the back than the front. This, in part, ensures the car has the sporty rear-wheel feel typical of the brand’s older models.

But there is more to consider. 4WD Sport Mode enables you to send an even higher percentage of the engine’s power rearward via the car’s setup menu. You can alternatively choose rear-wheel drive only and turn off dynamic stability control. ‘This allows skilled drivers to enjoy a highly engaging driving experience’, BMW stated.

Electric roof

The BMW M4 Competition Convertible has further strengths that entice. Its electric fabric roof, for starters. It is light, stylish, and opens or closes in only 18 seconds. You can also operate it while the vehicle is travelling at up to 31mph. Once open, the roof reduces the boot space although there is still plenty of room for shopping. Capacity falls from 385 litres to 300.

Stylish interior

The vehicle’s interior has nice features, too. Highlights include the air collar that propels warm air at your neck. Handy if the roof is open. This system complements the leather upholstery, red accents, and bucket seats. The BMW M4 Competition Convertible costs £81,915 and production starts July 2021. Keep an eye on your pulse.
