Ford have launched a new Ford Focus 1.0 litre version, this new three cylinder petrol engine uses a combination of direct fuel injection and a turbocharger to offer the performance of a 1.6 litre unit but with the cost benefits of a 1.0 litre. This new engine is capable of returning 56.5mpg and has Co2emissons of just 114g/km.
The smaller engine means the new engine qualifies for zero road tax in the first year and £20 or £30 per year thereafter, depending on which version is chosen.
Mark Ovenden, Ford of Britain managing director, said “gone are the days when the number of cylinders dictates performance. This highly efficient, technically advanced powertrain is not only great fun to drive, but it delivers fuel economy improvements and ultra-low CO2 emissions which lead to real world cost savings for our customers.”
There is an impressive equipment list of high technology features on all new Ford Focus models. Standard equipment across the range includes Ford’s Torque Vectoring Control; this electronic system balances the distribution of engine torque between the driven front wheels to optimise grip and stability irrespective of driving conditions or road surfaces.
