Explorers rejoice. The new Jeep Compass could help you 'point magnetic north' from only £199 per-month, at 0.0% APR. Just forage through the undergrowth for the £5,801 deposit, then save a further £7,337 over twenty-four months if you want to settle the optional purchase payment. This personal contract purchase plan is clearly far more affordable than buying outright. New Compass prices, after all, range from £17,445 to £22,295. Furthermore, this new model feels better built than its predecessor, and it is far more attractive. Thank goodness. The old version is uglier than a fist fight at a wedding.

The new Jeep Compass comes in various two-wheel-drive forms, but the pick of the bunch is the 2.2 CRD Limited '4x4'. This off-road plaything is about the size of a Focus, so it is easy to manoeuvre in town. As such, it suits those who want the style of a 4x4 – mixed with some off-road ability – in a compact package. Furthermore, its Mercedes engine produces 161bhp and propels this six-speed manual to 62mph in 9.8 seconds. It averages 42.8mpg too, which is fair for the class but not enough to make magnetic needles spin with delight. On the plus side, it has a nice specification including: Bluetooth, leather seats, climate control, and MP3 playback. If only it had a big compass on the roof.
