The Mercedes-Benz Citan is an enigma. In fact, as this van will not be launched until
late 2012, Sherlock Holmes is the only person capable of deducing its secrets. 'Citan',
for example, is derived from the words 'city' and 'titan'. The manufacturer – possibly after
probing from the famous detective – also said this emphasises its 'role as a high-calibre
specialist in city logistics designed specifically for the rough and tumble of everyday
working life'. Oh, okay. The word on the street is that the Mercedes-Benz Citan should
also be small enough for easy town driving, yet large enough to carry a substantial pile
of deerstalkers. However, even with help Dr. J. Watson, Holmes cannot provide exact
The Mercedes-Benz Citan will be available with petrol and diesel engines - or so Sherlock
reckons - and an electric version may follow in due course. Panel van, crewbus, and Mixto
bodystyles should make an appearance too, in various lengths and weight categories.
It is also likely that this load-lugger will be nicely equipped, as an electronic stability
programme will be standard across the range. Beyond that, not even Sherlock Holmes
knows more. He just wants to keep this workhorse away from Moriarty. That guy is trouble.
