The Volkswagen Scirocco is now available with a new entry-level engine. This 1.4-litre TSI is the most economical petrol unit in the range with combined fuel consumption of 44.1mpg and emissions of only 146g/km. It produces 122PS and 147 lbs ft of torque which is enough to propel the fashionable coupé to 62mph in 9.7 seconds and onto a maximum of 124mph.

The Scirocco is also an exceptional driver's car with confident sure-footed handling. The chassis produces plenty of traction which is easy to exploit thanks to the rewarding steering and precise gearbox. This striking machine also has a low centre and gravity and firm suspension so there is very little roll when pressing on through corners.

The entry-level Scirocco benefits from a reasonable list of standard equipment. This includes a six-CD autochanger, rain and dusk sensors, multifunction computer, air conditioning, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Safety features include ABS, an electronic stabilisation programme, and six air bags.

Prices for the new Volkswagen Scirocco 1.4-litre TSI start at £18,860 on-the-road.
