Peugeot will display its 308 RC Z concept car alongside the production version of the new 308 at the Frankfurt motor show next month. The concept is a 2+2 coupé powered by the 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine found in the 207 GTi, but uprated to develop 218bhp.
The transmission uses a new six-speed manual gearbox, which helps power the car to 62mph in seven seconds. Weight-saving materials include aluminium components in the front suspension, while the curved roof panel and rear window create sufficient rear downforce to eliminate the need for a rear spoiler.
If you've ever wondered what the point of concepts is, Peugeot says the 308 RC Z is "an amazing test bed of ideas making it possible to design and test new concepts, technology and styling ideas free from the constraints of volume production".
Alternatively, could it be the beginnings of a French Audi TT competitor?
