September will bring the launch of the Porsche Panamera Grand Tourer. Designed to be a grand touring sports car the newcomer will be the first ever saloon from the German firm Porsche.
The Panamera will be powered by a choice of V6 and V8 engines covering a power range between 300–500bhp ensuring blistering pace, though the GT will debut with a choice of normally-aspirated or turbocharged V8s. A Sports Chrono Package tweaking engine and gearshift characteristics will also be available and may be required to ensure the Panamera's handling lives up to its Porsche heritage. The combined fuel economy of between 25.4mpg and 23.2mpg is quite acceptable together with Porsche’s new stop/start system that automatically switches the engine off in traffic jams. The future will see a more fuel efficient version with an electric/hybrid engine.
At almost five metres long it should offer plenty of interior space it has a 445 litre boot and can take a six foot passenger in comfort and on a long journey. There will also be the option of reclining rear seats. There will be many opportunities for owners to personalize their car with everything from leather to carbon fibre and olive wood trim. There is also an audio surround system from specialist Berlin firm Burmester with sixteen speakers. Prices start at £72,000.
