Skoda has produced fifteen million cars and the celebration vehicle that rolled off the assembly line was a silver third generation Skoda Octavia. Skoda chairman of the board, Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland said “the entire Skoda team is very proud of the fifteen million celebration, producing fifteen million cars is a symbol for the great development of the Skoda brand.” Skoda has plans in the coming years to speed up development and sell at least 1.5 million vehicles per year by the year 2018. The company has enjoyed a successful start by launching the Citigo, the Rapid and the new Octavia. In total Skoda will launch eight new or facelifted models in 2013.
In the coming days, the new Skoda Octavia will be launched in the Czech Republic and Germany, while other markets will follow in coming weeks. The Octavia outsells all the other Skoda models and last year accounted for 44% of the brands worldwide sales. Figures show that since 1996 approximately 3.75 million Octavia’s were delivered to customers.
The Skoda Octavia is a great family car
It is no wonder the Octavia is such a success it really is a great family car that offers low fuel consumption which is a ‘must’ these days. It is one of the biggest small family cars available on the market. There are six engines offered including two 2.0 litre turbodiesels and most versions are not only cheap to run but cheap to buy. The new model that arrives in showrooms next month has grown in size and will probably rival the Ford Mondeo. The interior is huge with lots of head and leg room and the boot is a major highlight, it boasts a high opening tailgate and room for 590 litres of luggage. The interior materials can easily rival the latest VW Golf and every model includes touch screen infotainment and also boasts some clever but very simple features.
Other features include ‘Adaptive Cruise Assistant’, ‘Traveller Assistant’ and ‘Automatic Parking Assistant’ plus there is an electric panoramic sliding/tilting sunroof which is fabulous feature for when the sun is out and it gives the interior a bright and airy feel. The Keyless Entry Start and Exit System (KESSY) is another new feature which is an automatic door and ignition lock system. Prices for the new Ford Mondeo will start at approximately £14,000.
