Skoda has experienced yet another successful year as deliveries to customers worldwide rose yet again. A massive 939,200 vehicles were sold with December being the best month in the company’s history. In the UK alone sales advanced from 45,300 sold in 2011 to a current record of over 53,200 units and a record market share of 2.6 per cent. The new Skoda cars such as the Octavia, Rapid and Citigo are some of the most popular and they are proving to be very successful and this success is due to continue as this year Skoda have launched a new Octavia.
This third generation Skoda Octavia has been built on the same platform as the Volkswagen Golf, the car is a comfy ride with great handling and low fuel consumption. Four petrol engines and four diesel engines are offered and all of them are available in a Green tec version with a start-stop system. Skoda also offer a Greenline version for those who are thinking of the environment, the impressive co2 emissions are only 89g/km and this 1.6 TDI model can drive for sixty miles on 3.4 litres of diesel so it is certainly worth thinking about. A new feature included by Skoda is the Adaptive Cruise Assistant, this system automatically maintains a pre-set distance to the car ahead and then further help is offered with the future traffic sign recognition package. Other updates available include an electric panoramic sliding/tilting sunroof plus KESSY the Keyless Entry Start and Exit System which is an automatic door and ignition lock system. The Octavia is the heart of the Skoda brand and this new version is certainly a good car made even better.
The Citigo and the Rapid have proved to be a massive success for Skoda; the Citigo is Skoda’s first city car. Even though it is a city car it is surprisingly spacious and can accommodate four adults quite comfortably. There is a Green tec variant which has co2 emissions of 96g/km. The other success story the Skoda Rapid sits between the Fabia supermini and the Octavia hatch in the Skoda range, it is a fantastic family car which again is very roomy and there are a number of engines to choose from including five petrol and two diesel. The Skoda Rapid is also without doubt one of the safest new cars you can now buy in the compact hatch class, it scored incredibly high in areas of occupant protection for adults and children, pedestrian protection and safety assistance systems, it was awarded five stars for safety by Euro NCAP.
