Skoda have expanded the Fabia range with a distinctive new model. The Fabia Scout is based on the Fabia 2 and described, by Skoda, as a 'ruggedly styled car suitable for today’s urban environment'. In other words, it has protective plastic body mouldings for driving up mountains.

The front-wheel-drive Fabia Scout is available with three engines. The 1.4-litre petrol generates 85bhp, the 1.4-litre diesel generates 80bhp, and the 1.9-litre diesel generates a mighty 105bhp. The best choice for budget conscious motorists is the 1.4-litre diesel which achieves a combined average of 61.4mpg, and sits in VED tax band C/£35.

The Fabia Scout is also fairly well equiped. Standard equipment includes, 16” Scout alloy wheels, silver roof rails, Scout upholstery, cruise control, sunset glass, front and rear electric windows, leather steering wheel, plus alloy pedals and armrest. Options include a variable boot floor (£120) and larger 17” alloy wheels (£300). Prices range from £12,815 to £14,380 on-the-road.
