This desirable lifestyle statement is available with a choice of three petrol engines. There is the entry level 1.6-litre, the 1.8-litre turbo, and the thrilling 2.0-litre TFSI. This later unit produces 197bhp and hits 60mph in 7.2 seconds. Motorists in less of a rush, or watching the pennies, may prefer the 1.6, 1.9, or 2.0-litre diesel. These economical units return a combined average of between 50 - 65mpg.
The handling, as is generally the case with Audi, feels secure and predicable. This agile convertible has plenty of traction to satisfy enthusiastic drivers, and this is complemented by firm suspension that minimises body roll. The steering is also responsive and accurate so this entertaining vehicle is a joy to own - but don't expect much luggage space for Christmas shopping. The Audi A3 Cabriolet deserves its place on the Christmas list because it is a fashionable, reasonably practical, robustly constructed, feel good car. It also received votes for being cheaper than its A4 equivalent and more practical than the eternally popular TT.
New prices range from £19,935 - £29,175, whereas entry level used examples cost approximately £16,000.
