Benefits of electric vehicles
The Electric Vehicle Experience Centre is the nation’s first, multi-brand, showroom for low-emission vehicles and it opens in Milton Keynes July 22nd 2017. The staff explain – in a “relaxed shopping centre” environment that spans 4,000 square feet - how such a vehicle might optimise your lifestyle. The benefits include:
- Less/no requirement to purchase petrol or diesel
- Low Vehicle Excise Duty
- Fully electric vehicle cannot pollute (at the point of use)
- Clearer environmental conscience
- London Congestion Charge exemption
- Vehicle is fashionable, modern and high status
- Makes a statement that you value the environment
Wide range of vehicles available
Chargemaster produces chargers for the vehicles and manages the site. BMW, Nissan, Renault and Mitsubishi are among its partners. Test drives confirm which brand best suits your lifestyle. You might, for example, favour a car that has better than average range, room for family holidays and a boot that swallows a bicycle.
The BMW i3 is a fully electric, small family, hatchback and among the prospects. Strengths include its 125 mile range. The optional range extender is a small, single cylinder, combustion engine that charges the battery on the move. Its range then rises to 206 miles.
The Nissan LEAF is a fully electric small family hatchback, too. A high equipment specification is among its strengths. Features include the around view monitor that provides a bird’s eye, 360 degree, view of the area to make low speed manoeuvres easier. Images come via a camera each side of the car plus a colour screen.
The Renault Zoe is a fully electric supermini. A low purchase cost is a key virtue. Prices start at £14,245 plus battery hire of £49 to £110 per-month, depending on requirements. Hiring the battery keeps initial costs low – and ensures the company has to repair or replace it if performance falls below 75% (of original capability).
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) is a large, sports-utility, class workhorse. Strengths include all-wheel-drive, acres of space, imposing street presence and high equipment specification. Cruise in fully electric mode or start the petrol engine if more power is required to (say) tow your caravan.
Chargemaster looks forward to launch
David Martell, Chief Executive of Chargemaster, revealed: “Opening the Electric Vehicle Experience Centre will be a landmark day. It will provide a destination for visitors to make an informed decision about owning an EV (electric vehicle) without the pressure of having to make an immediate purchase decision.”
