The Volkswagen Polo has been awarded 2010 World Car of the Year at the New York International Auto Show. The award is based on merit, value, safety, environmental impact, significance and emotional appeal.
The latest generation of the Volkswagen Polo has quickly become a favorite in the brand's lineup to drivers and media alike, with its uncluttered, timeless design, and exceptional versatility and efficiency. More than 230,000 customers worldwide have placed orders for the newest version of Volkswagen's popular subcompact vehicle.
All Volkswagen Polo models come with four airbags, ABS and, for the first time, ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) and Isofix child-seat mounting points as standard. There are optional extras such as satellite navigation, DAB digital radio and electronic climate control. The new Volkswagen Polo is slightly wider and longer and these new dimensions provide greater passenger and luggage space, there is more leg, head and shoulder room and approximately 280 litres of luggage space which is increased to 952 litres with the rear seats folded.
In a separate award, the BlueMotion product brand consisting of the Volkswagen Golf, Passat, and Polo, was declared the 2010 World Green Car of the Year by the World Car of The Year organisation.
