It is thirty four years since the first Volkswagen Polo went on sale, and the fifth generation of this supermini is now available to order in advance of its on sale date of October 16th.
The new range consists of S, Moda (which is designed to appeal to a younger audience) and SE, and SEL. The GTI and Blue Motion versions will follow later in 2010. The new Blue Motion achieves 74 mpg while emitting just 96 g/km of CO2; this will improve on the current Volkswagen Polo Blue Motion model which is one of the most fuel efficient vehicles currently on sale.
All the models come with four airbags, ABS and, for the first time, ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) and Isofix child-seat mounting points as standard. There are optional extras such as satellite navigation, DAB digital radio and electronic climate control.
Prices for VW's new supermini range from £10,035 for the 1.2-litre five-door to £14,910 for the top-of-the-range 1.6-litre diesel. A three-door model will be available in December.
