Volkswagen Sharan Bluemotion
Geneva will mark the debut of the seven seat Sharan Bluemotion. Volkswagen Individual, established in 2003, has been working on reducing the levels of CO2 output from the 2.0-litre TDI 140 engine. Various modifications have been made to ensure better efficiency such as fitting longer gear ratios and the relocation of the cooling ducts on the cars nose. The Sharan Bluemotion is also 25mm lower than the standard car to reduce drag. The resulting CO2 output has dropped from 177g/km to 159g/km, whilst fuel economy has risen to 45.6mpg. This theoretically gives the 70-litre tank a range in excess of 680 miles. The Sharan will arrive in the UK later this year and will join existing Bluemotion models; the Golf and Golf Plus, Polo, Jetta, Passat and Passat Estate. Prices and specs are yet to be announced.
