The Tiguan model from Volkswagen is now available to order from dealerships around the UK.
Motorists can pick up the car with a variety of extra features, including a touchscreen-operated satellite navigation system and an audio component with built-in navigational facilities.
Under the bonnet, drivers have the option of a 2.0-litre TDI 140 PS diesel engine or a 1.4-litre TSI 150 PS petrol equivalent, while its 4motion intelligent driving employs electromechanical power steering.
"This vehicle takes Volkswagen into a new market segment and has been eagerly anticipated since its debut as a concept at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November last year," the company commented.
Drivers can get behind the wheel of the new model from February 2008, when it will be made available at the entry-level price of £19,370.
A drop in sales in Europe saw new vehicle acquisition fall by 1.5 per cent over the course of September.
