The Volkswagen Polo three-door will be officially revealed at the forthcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. Volkswagen's latest supermini shares the platform and dimensions of its five-door counterpart - so the new three-door model is more spacious than its predecessor.

The Polo three-door is available with a choice of six engines - two for each door. There are two naturally aspirated 1.2-litre units producing 60 and 70PS, a 1.4-litre producing 85PS, and two 1.6-litre diesels producing 75 and 90PS. Also, three-door thrill seekers can treat themselves to the 1.2-litre turbocharged unit which produces 105PS.

Volkswagen's solidly constructed supermini comes in S, SE, Moda, and SEL trim. So that's three doors, six engines, and four trims. Standard specification includes electronic stability program, hydraulic brake assist, and multiple air bags. The top-of-the-range SEL adds multifunction computer, tyre pressure warning indicator, and 16-inch alloy wheels.

The Volkswagen Polo three-door is available from early 2010. Prices are expected to range from £9,400 to £14,000 on-the-road.
