Let’s be honest, the current car buying and ownership cycle hasn’t really adapted to the modern day. Look elsewhere in society; taxi services have been replaced by Uber, MoBikes and Boris bikes have had an impact on bicycle ownership, and within the automotive industry, few people even own their cars anymore, as so many of us just lease them.
The industry needs a shake-up, and while car-sharing schemes do exist, Volvo are looking to take this new style of ownership to a new level.
The project is called ‘Care by Volvo’ and it will make having a car as plain and simple as owning a mobile phone. You pay a ‘ready-negotiated’ (non-negotiable) fixed price on a payment plan and you get a new car every 24 months.
Other benefits include concierge services, such as fuelling, valeting, collection for servicing and much more.
The brand new XC40 launched this week in Milan and it will be the first model to go on the Care by Volvo scheme, an ownership landscape which will develop, expand and evolve over time.
“Our aim with Care by Volvo is to provide our customers with a transparent, premium car user experience. With a fixed monthly payment, Volvo Cars provides a truly customer-focused alternative to the traditional purchase or leasing. Time is a luxury for our customers, and with this service we are able to free up time in their daily lives. This is simply making life easier for our customers,” said Thomas Andersson, Vice President Care by Volvo at Volvo Cars.
Care by Volvo will have national prices which are standard rates, without preference to age, gender or geographical location. Premium subscribers will also be able to flexibly witch cars on a temporary basis depending on their needs.
Very exciting times for Volvo, made more exciting by this brand new model, launched alongside the Car by Volvo scheme.
The XC40 is the smallest Volvo 4x4 on the market and it completes their lineup in the ever-growing premium SUV segment.
“The XC40 is our first entry in the small SUV segment, broadening the appeal of the Volvo brand and moving it in a new direction,” said Håkan Samuelsson, President and Chief Executive of Volvo Cars. “It represents a fresh, creative and distinctive new member of the Volvo line-up. So it only feels natural to reveal the XC40 here in Milan, a buzzing European hotspot for fashion, art, design and lifestyle.”
