The Citroen C5 Tourer 3.0 HDi V6 Exclusive just punched my mate in the face - and rightly so. He scoffed at the 'Citroen' badge, mocked the C5's 'image', and cried with laughter when he heard that this practical estate has some serious poke. Big mistake. This particular load-lugger rockets to 62mph in 7.9 seconds and races to a licence losing 150mph. That is the speed my friend retreated after this Frenchman rearranged his teeth.

The Citroen C5 Tourer 3.0 HDi V6 Exclusive produces 240bhp. That is 120bhp more than the entry-level model, and even that has 'reasonable' performance. Power is sent to the front wheels via smooth and responsive six-speed automatic transmission. The manual clutch must have been removed and thrown at my friend. However, despite its ferocious temper the C5 Tourer's handling is more comfortable cruiser than hard-core street fighter.

So, let us consider practicality. This powerful estate carries five people plus 505-litres of luggage. Dumping a few passengers and folding the rear seats flat increases cargo capacity to 1,462-litres. That is far less than the Ford Mondeo Estate. However, the C5's running costs are sensible as this feisty face-slapper averages 39.2mpg. Emissions are 189g/km, which equates to road tax band J/£245. And the price? How does £30,415 sound? It sounds pricey to me, but I must be careful what I write. The C5 might hit me too.
