Olympic cyclists best swap their uncomfortable saddles for the super-comfortable Ford Galaxy 2.0 TDCi Zetec. Why? Because this multi-purpose vehicle is one of the most spacious bike carriers on the market, and one of the best value for money. As such, five of its seven seats fold flat to create a monstrous 2,325-litre bike holder. That is more than the vast Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate, the spacious BMW 5 Series Touring, and the large and lofty Mercedes-Benz R-Class – all of which cost considerably more than this £25,950 Galaxy Zetec. Even with seven cyclists aboard the Ford's capacity is 308-litres. That is more than a new Fiesta's “seat up” capacity. And yes, non Olympians can buy this MPV too.

The Ford Galaxy 2.0 TDCi Zetec has strengths to complement its cargo capacity. The handing is composed, for starters, although not as engaging as the Ford S-Max MPV. Despite this the steering feels sharp, the brakes inspire confidence, and the ride is more comfortable than any duel-suspension mountain bike. The Galaxy also has climate control, an electronic stability programme, Bluetooth, and parking sensors. Never seen that on a bike, even “posh” ones from Argos. Is that where Olympians buy their equipment? This 140PS diesel-powered MPV also has pleasing fuel efficiency and performance. As such it averages 47.1mpg, and hits 62mph in 10.1 seconds. That is much quicker than my old bike.
