We bought the civic because we liked the safety options the furturistic looks and bought into the Honda reliability. The option seemed to give us what we want, we bought the 1.5 turbo petrol engine, packed with features, adaptive cruise control, speed sign recognition, stop/ start, Lane assist, Garmin SATNAV, looks.... Honda let itself down with the reliability on the motorway drive home after collecting the car, the cruise control faulted, a week later the alarm would go off for no reason and the windows open, on the drive as if by magic. The AA road assist could not connect to the car to diagnose, as at the time that did not have the correct software. Two months later low oil warning indicated required a further software update. We have now had the car for two years, the faults have disappeared and confidence has returned, it was almost as if the car was to clever or the electronics to sensitive. The mechanicals are so far great. To drive the car sits low to the ground, but not two low for kerbs, roadbumps and rougher ground. The acceleration is adequate, not as impressive as perceived win book figure of 182 HP, it is definitely not a car for a dray race, to get real grunt out of the engine, you need to get into the higher rev range. It's okay to have fun but the cabin gets a noisy. The best part of the drive for me is ( for an average middle aged man, not a racing driver) the road holding, the car sits fairly flat into corners and has never felt out of control , even on wet roads, I sometimes think I would like to have more feel from the steering, but in the real world of commute and everyday life it's fine. The build quality is okay, does not feel as solidly built as our other car (BMW), cabin can be a bit noisy on a long journey on less than smooth roads, the driver's seat is a bit of a disappointment, does not provide any real support to the thighs and the lower back, you sit on it rather than in it... General purpose it is pretty good, Honda have done well with the spacious interior, if you are over six foot in the back headroom would be a niggle, although the boot. Is everyday spacious, low height prevent s its use for carrying around your lawn mower or rotivator. Why would you to that, well we only have the budget for one car! When the current PCP is up, I would'nt get another one, it's got enough road holding and latent power to make me smile, because it makes me feel like a better driver than I am really ( have done a bit of carting in the past), but there are other packages on the road that offer more in road holding, comfort and refined power that are more practical. I think actually I am driving the car my son should have ho hum
