The Mercedes-Benz S 350 BlueTEC L is perfect for ferrying pointless pop stars to calamitous concerts. Why? Because it has been crowned “Professional Driver’s Chauffeur Car of the Year 2012”. That is less surprising than finding a sickening song at number one in the charts. The S-Class has a superb ride, after all, and this “L for long” version has even more legroom than a standard S-Class. This complements its vast 560-litre boot that is larger than the seat-up capacity of a Ford Mondeo Estate. Plenty of room for CDs, then.

Mark Bursa, Editor of Professional Driver and Chairman of the judging panel, said: “The S- Class received consistent scoring from all the judges who tested it - and it’s a testament to its quality that a car toward the end of its product life cycle can still outscore some newer rivals.” Nick Andrews, Head of Fleet at Mercedes-Benz UK, added: “We are honoured to receive this award. The S-Class has always been the industry trailblazer when it comes to safety, comfort, and driver assistance technologies and this award cements its reputation.”

The Mercedes-Benz S 350 BlueTEC L has a 3.0-litre 258bhp V6 diesel engine teamed with smooth seven-speed automatic transmission. These propel pop stars to 62mph in a super-speedy 7.1 seconds. Perfect for escaping from autograph hunters. This S-Class also averages 45.6mpg which is staggering considering its size, weight, and performance. This complements a high specification that includes electrically adjustable heated rear seats, an electric rear blind, and duel-zone climate control. Pop stars never had it so good.
