Oh, okay then. The new Audi TT 1.8 TFSI Coupe is here. That forces us to play a challenging game of ''spot the difference”. But how can we? Its styling looks remarkably similar to its more established siblings, the cabin too, and it also oozes that familiar Audi TT smugness. But there must be something to distinguish this curvaceous coupé from the rest of the range. Different radio station pre-sets perhaps? Can it sing? Does it have a talent for poker? It may surprise you to learn that the answers to these questions are 'no' – but this front-wheel-drive fashion statement does have a new trick up its exhaust pipe.

This comes in the form of its 1.8-litre engine that, until now, has only been available in the Roadster. This petrol power plant is both powerful and fairly economical. Here comes the proof. The Audi TT 1.8 TFSI Coupe produces 160bhp and 250Nm of torque. It comes in six-speed manual and S-tronic form, the latter of which rockets to 62mph in 7.1 seconds. Top speed is 140mph and it averages 44.1mpg. That makes this latest variant the obvious choice for cash savers. It averages 1.3mpg more than its most efficient sibling, and is available from only £24,070 rather than £27,140. Hairdressers have never had it so good.
