The new BMW 1 series M Coupe will not be mistaken for a BMW 135i, the bodywork has ballooned front and rear and all the standard chassis has been replaced with the suspension, brakes, 19in competition pack wheels and clever M Differential from the existing M3. This BMW 1 series M coupe has presence especially in Valencia Orange; the only other exterior paint options are black and white.

The twin turbo 3.0 litre engine produces peak power at 5900rpm. There’s 332lb ft of twist between 1500 and 4500rpm, but an overboost facility increases this to 369lb ft under full throttle (the V8-engined M3 generates 414bhp and 295lb ft). This power and torque equates to a 0-62mph time of 4.9secs, 0-124mph in 17.3secs, and on to a limited 155mph top speed.

The interior has a chunky Alcantara steering wheel with contrasting orange stitching on the dash together with the latest iDrive system. Bespoke M Division instruments also make a return, with pale grey-blue background. The BMW 1 series M is only available as a two-door coupe and prices start at approximately £39,990.
