The BMW 6-Series Convertible has so many strengths that it would take until the end of time to list them. So, let us consider the highlights. This beauty is 'optionally' available with four-wheel-steering. At speeds up to 37mph, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front to reduce the turning circle. That also helps this beast turn sharply through corners. In contrast, above 37mph, the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front to maximise ride quality. This complements the Dynamic Control System which enables thrill-seekers to change the responsiveness of the eight-speed automatic transmission, the steering, and the throttle. Options are: Comfort, Normal, Sport, and Sport+. Very nice too.

That brings us to handling. Removing the roof from cars can leave them feeling vague compared to their tin-top siblings. Not the new BMW 6-Series Convertible. This always feels lively, thrilling, and engaging. The top-spec 650i M Sport is my favourite, as it has a 4.4-litre 407bhp engine. Expect to reach 62mph in 5 seconds. The only 'niggle' is that it averages 26.4mpg, which is low by today's standards. The most environmentally friendly alternative is the 640d SE. Its 3.0-litre 313bhp power plant returns 50.4mpg. That is impressive for a large predator that hits 62mph in 5.6 seconds. Every variant is capable of 155mph. Every variant can empty your bank account too. Prices range from £65,695 to £77,715.
