Never thought I would say this, but....the new Chevrolet Aveo is a seriously good looking machine. What a remarkable contrast to the previous version that, despite having a few virtues, looks dreary enough to put people to sleep at five-hundred yards. The latest model is bad news for insomniacs, as its in-your-face styling is guaranteed to keep them awake. Great for cheap small car lovers though, this sector just got a lot more interesting.

The new Chevrolet Aveo has twin headlights, a split front grill, and the rear door handles are concealed within its C pillars. This Fiesta rival also has deep creases in its bonnet for a purposeful stance. This compact run-around is also longer and wider than the out-going model, so it is more spacious too. Furthermore, the excellent interior has a motorcycle- inspired instrument cluster, wrap-around fascia, and blue back-lighting. Very nice touches.

Chevrolet say the latest Aveo has been tuned for the European market, and feels both comfortable and responsive. Petrol engines include the 1.2-litre 85bhp unit, and the 1.4- litre 99bhp trim. The latter is optionally available with six-speed automatic transmission. Diesel lovers choose from two 1.3-litre power plants, with 74 or 94bhp. These come with a 'start-stop' system for improved efficiency. What a nice little car. Excellent work Chevrolet.
