Honda have released pictures of their one-off Honda CR-Z Mugen Hybrid Coupe, which is due to make its world debut at the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The CR-Z Mugen is to retain its 1.5-litre i-VTEC four cylinder petrol engine and the IMA (Integrated Motor Assistance) electric motor, but the petrol engine has been worked over by Mugen to a higher specification and has an added supercharger to boost power to around 200bhp, and 181 pound-feet of torque.

Mugen has also reduced the weight of the CR-Z by 50kg, and has made modifications to the chassis. Further improvements to handling have been made with larger brakes and new shock absorbers. Modifications on the exterior of the vehicle include new front and rear bumpers, new side skirts, rear spoiler and Mugen GP 17-inch forged alloy wheels.

Colin Whittamore, a spokesman for Mugen Euro said: "The idea was to use the significant advantage of the early torque provided by the Honda IMA electric motor, then increase the torque available from the petrol engine gradually, to first maintain and then increase this. A supercharger and complementary electronics allow us to very neatly map the IMA to the extra power and torque of the engine in a unique package, giving a smooth, integrated and powerful driving experience."

"We've retained the three driving modes from the standard car and economy ranges from 50+mpg in 'eco' mode to mid-30 mpg when tapping into the supercharged power in a special 'Mugen' mode."

The bad news though is that Mugen said the car, which is a joint project with Honda (U.K), is to remain a one-off with no immediate plans for production, although there is a slim chance of a limited production run of the Mugen CR-Z.
